Aalsmeer – MultiTrax, a Royal Burgers dealer in Italy, is taking a major step toward more sustainable and efficient transportation in collaboration with logistics service provider Italtrans and supermarket chain Esselunga. A Double Deck trailer from Burgers was recently put into service for daily distribution between the logistics centers in Pioltello, Biandrate, and Sesto Fiorentino.
The trailer, supplied by MultiTrax and manufactured by Royal Burgers in the Netherlands, significantly enhances efficiency within Esselunga's logistics operations. Thanks to its double deck loading system, up to 60% more volume can be transported per trip compared to a standard trailer. This reduces the number of transport movements, resulting in lower CO₂ emissions, decreased fuel consumption, and reduced traffic congestion on Italian roads.
The Burgers Double Deck trailer features a variety of innovative solutions. For example, the trailer is equipped with a solar panel that spans the entire roof, providing power to the hydraulic tailgate and other electrical systems. In addition, aerodynamic spoilers deliver additional fuel savings, and the Burgers Telematics system enables real-time monitoring of the trailer.
For Italtrans, efficiency was the main reason for choosing this solution. By using the Double Deck trailer, the same amount of goods can now be transported in two trips instead of three.
The launch of this trailer is the result of a close collaboration between Esselunga, Italtrans, and MultiTrax, the exclusive importer of Burgers Double Deck trailers in Italy. Following extensive field testing within Esselunga’s logistics operations, the configuration was fully tailored to the customer’s daily operations and specific needs.
“With the introduction of the Burgers Double Deck trailer, we’re demonstrating how innovation can directly contribute to more sustainable and efficient transportation,” says Alberto Maggi, Managing Director of MultiTrax. “Our role goes beyond simply supplying trailers. We actively collaborate with customers on logistics optimization and make targeted investments in innovative solutions that allow customers to test new concepts in practice.”
Through this collaboration, Royal Burgers and MultiTrax once again underscore their shared focus on innovation, sustainability, and intelligent logistics solutions for the retail sector.
