Transport operations rarely follow a single type of route. A configuration that performs well over long distances may need additional flexibility when entering urban areas. The Drawbar Double Deck combines both requirements: increased cargo capacity for efficient line-haul transport and the ability to decouple the trailer when greater manoeuvrability is required.
Built around the route
The Drawbar Double Deck consists of a truck and a separate Double Deck trailer. Together, they create a high-volume transport combination. The trailer can also be disconnected, allowing the truck to continue independently in cities or other locations where space and accessibility are limited.
This makes the configuration particularly suitable for retail distribution networks that combine long-distance transport with deliveries to stores in cities and regional centres.
The Drawbar Double Deck in practice at Zeeman
Zeeman uses an EcoCombi configuration to transport larger volumes while reducing the number of vehicle movements required. The truck accommodates 27 roll containers, while the Drawbar Double Deck trailer provides space for another 72.
The combination covers approximately 120,000 kilometres annually. By transporting more goods per movement, Zeeman can use its fleet more efficiently and reduce fuel consumption relative to the volume transported.
For routes where a full EcoCombi is not the best fit, the trailer can be decoupled. Zeeman also uses City Double Deck trailers for urban distribution in countries including France, Germany and Luxembourg. Each route is therefore matched with the configuration that best supports its operational requirements.
More than additional capacity
The value of a Double Deck solution depends on more than its loading volume. Route structure, cargo type, delivery frequency, access restrictions and loading processes all influence whether the solution fits an operation.
